army service defaulter (Press Assn.* Wellington. Dec. 10. "It would be extremely foolish to send you to the defaulters' detention camp, considering your subversive activities and your capabilities for mischief amongst the young men of this Dominion," said Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M.. to Michael Young, aged 24, who pleaded guilty to failing to report for military* service. He was stated by the police to he one of the leaders of lhe paciiist movement. Mr. Stout sentenced him to three months' hard labour. The magistrate remarked that Young had been carrying on witli his endeavours to get other young men to refuse military service, and in reference to complaints by Young, said that his case might have been considered genuine by lhe appeal board if he had kept his views to himself and had not gone out of his way tn he subvcrsi\e and to obstruct the police.
