N.Z.-MADE CANDLES

PRICE HAS BEEN FIXED (Press Assn.) Wellington, Sept. IS. The Price Tribunal stated to-day that it had investigated the price position of New Zealand-manufac-tured candles. It found that prices throughout New Zealand varied considerably. due to higher landed cost ol wax, and they might tend to rise. The time was opportune, therefore, to fix Dominion-wide prices, which would be fair to the retailer and consumer alike. It should be pointed out, the Tribunal stated, that prices which have been fixed by order arc maximum prices only. The prices are: Is 2d per lib packet of 6 candles, 2jd per candle for less than packet lots. Having regard to the varying prices at present ruling, it was felt that, on an overall basis, the operation of the new maximum price level fixed by Ihe order, while fair to retailers generally, would benefit the public.
