NEW BILL OPPOSED AUCKLAND WEST PROTEST (Press Assn.) Auckland, Sept. 18. A meeting of about 250 people at Ponsonby, convened and addressed byDr. W. H. Pettit, carried the following resolution, with few dissentients. “That this meeting, consisting largely of the electors of Auckland West, desires to inform the Government that it. has been reported that five general practitioners residing in this electorate regret they cannot practice under the terms of the Social Security Amendment Bill. This meeting, therefore, considers it. is the responsibility of the Government to provide an adequate medical service for this electorate. In order to do this, this meeting is convinced it will bo necessary: (1) To withdraw the Bill, or (2) to procure live doctors to replace those residing in Auckland West, or (3) to permit resident doctors to practice outside the terms of the Bill."
A further motion reouesting the council of the British Medical Association to launch a general campaign of protest against the Bill, by immediately organising further public meetings, was carried without dissent, amid much enthusiasm.
