Scott at tlie monthly meeting of the Wanganui Hospital Board yesterday, when a letter from the Department of Health advised that in the circumstances special approval was n °t- required if the board desired to make the salary increases for nurses retro "nectivc to April, 1940. An increase in the salaries of nurses employed by the board to a level rul’ii" in other hosnital di tricts was authorised at the monthly meeting in August. It was decided at the time that the 'nc.-c.-'o wou’d be retrospective to Anril 1, last, but if the department were agreeable, the increases would he retrospective to April 1. 1940, when other boards adopted the higher rates recommended by the Hospital Boards’ Association of New Zealand.
