Squadron-Leader George Carter, R.N.Z.A.F., is appointed Munitions Controller for the purpose of the Munitions Emergency Regulations. 1941
Mr. Thomas Bernard Gillooly has been appointed a member of the Board of Examiners under the Mining Act, 1926, for a period of two years, as from September 1.
Major R. B. Ashe, New Zealand Temporary Staff, Chief Signals Officer, Army Headquarters, has been granted the temporary rank of lieutenantcolonel.
An Andrew Fletcher, Wellington, arrived in London on Saturday last. He left New Zealand by the PanAmerican Airways clipper on August 31, spent four days in America, and reached London on September 13 after a record trip.
The death has occurred at Barwon Heads, Victoria, of Mr. Cecil Cleeve Cox, aged 66. Mr. Cox was former manager of the Dunedin branch of the Bank of Australasia and was a prominent lawn tennis player. He retired in July, 1935.
Mr. Rupert Knowles, formerly private secretary to the Speaker of the Legislative Council, has been appointed the National Patriotic Fund Board's Commissioner in the Far East, with the approval of the British commanding officer there.
Mr. J. Hunter, “Octa,” Fordell, a member of the Wanganui A. and PAssociation, was given a vote of sympathy at a meeting of the executive committee of the association recently, following the death of his son. Temporary-Corporal R, D. Hunter, Second N.Z.E.F., on active service.
Miss A. B. McLean, senior assistant in the bacteriological laboratory at the Wanganui Hospital, has resigned to take up a position in the laboratory of the Christchurch Hospital. Her resignation was received with regret at the monthly meeting yesterday of the Wanganui Hospital Board.
Dr. G. H. B. Whitta, house surgeon at the Wanganui Hospital, has resigned to take up private practice in Hunterville. His resignation was received with regret at the monthly meeting yesterday of the Wanganui Hospital Board. The chairman, Mr. W. E. Broderick (Maxwell), said they wished Dr. Whitta success in his new venture.
Miss M. A. Stringfellow, head masseuse at the Wanganui Public Hospital, has been appointed inspecting masseuse under the Department of Health. The Wanganui Hospital Board yesterday decided to congratulate Miss Stringfellow on her appointment and granted her three months’ leave on full pay. Her resignation, which was received with regret, will be effective from October 31. Miss Stringfellow has been in the employ of the Wanganui Hospital Board for more than 15 years.
