MEAT CANNING
DEVELOPMENT THIS SEASON
MACHINERY FOR N.Z. IS ON ORDER BUILDINGS TO COST £200,000 (Press Assn.) Wellington, July 19. Meat canning for export is likely to be a substantial factor in operations for the coming season. The necessity for development of the canning industry has been stressed and the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. J. G. Barclay, asked to-day what progress had been made, said the machinery for canning primary products is on order from the United States at a cost of between £40.000 and £50,000 and buildings for this industry are being constructed in association with export freezing works, which will cost in the region of £200,000. “The Government is responsible for this expenditure.” added the Minister, “and these facilities will be available in time for the coming export season.'*
