ATEA DISTRICT SCHOOLS
SPORTS TO-MORROW RUGBY AND BASKETBALL Fourteen Rugby teams and 17 basketball teams from 10 schools in the Patea and District Public School Amateur Athletic Association annual tournament at Patea under ideal weather conditions. All matches were keenly contested and good play in both football and basketball was witnessed. The Duffy Shield was won, after a close game, by Waverley Convent in senior football, while the Junior Cup was won by Patea A. The cup for senior basketball was won by Waverley Convent and the Junior Cup by Patea A. The chairman of the association, Mr. G. Hurley, called on the chairman of the Wanganui Education Jpard. Mr. E. F. Hemingway, to pre/nt the trophies. Mr. Hemingway complimented the teams on their high standard of play, which showed that teachers had given careful coaching. He thanked the Patea Boxing Association for the use of the scales, the Patea St. John Ambulance lor at-
tendance in case of accident, Messrs. Edwards and Lamb (gatekeepers), the referees, touch judges and all other officials who had helped to make the day a success.
