MAJESTIC THEATRE

“ONE NIGHT IN THE TROPICS” America’s greatest living composer, Jerome Kern, furnished the musical score of live original numbers in Universal's romantic comedy feature, "One Night in the Tropics," which concludes to-night at the Majestic Theatre. A reunion of star and composer was marked when Allan Jones was assigned a stellar role opposite Nancy Kelly in the new film. Jones made one of his initial hits in the 1936 Universal film version of "Showboat,” which boosted one of Kern's most memorable scores. In "One Night in the Tropics” Jones sings "You and Your Kiss,” "Simple Philosophy” and “Your Dream.” Miss Kelly makes a vocal debut by singing “Your Dream.” Peggy Moran, young leading lady who has her most important role to date, also sings for the first time when she vocalises Kern's “Remind Me.” “Till XV e Meet .Again” Powerful acting by Merle Oberon and George Brent has made “Till We Meet Agj.in” one of the strongest love dramas ever screened. The film, which comes to-morrow to the Majestic Theatre, concerns a runaway from the law, played by George Brent, and his meeting with a girl suffering from an incurable heart ailment, who has only a few months to live, portrayed by Merle Oberon. Shortly afterwards Brent is captured by a detective of the San Francisco police (Pat (O’Brien), who had trailed him halfway round the world. He is taken to the United States, for execution on a murder charge and meets the girl again on shipboard, neither being aware of the other's plight. A romance develops, but both realise that it cannot last long. The intriguing and tragic implications of the situation are fully realised in this production.
