MUNICIPAL ELECTION CAMPAIGN “MATTER WILL BE TAKEN MUCH FURTHER” COMPLAINT BY MAYOR OF WELLINGTON (Press Assn.i Wellington. May 13. 'Allegations that some Labour supporters had entered the office of a candidate on the Citizens’ ticket for the forthcoming municipal elections, and had made threats in an endeavour to pursuade him to withdraw a certain statement made in the course of his candidature, were made by the Mayor. Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, speaking at an election meeting at Island Bay. “More will certainly be heard of this,” said Mr. Hislop. “This is the Nazi touch. It will be heard of far beyond Wellington and the effects will be felt far beyond Wellington and this election. “We have come to an astounding state of affairs when a group of people go to a man’s office and try to frighten him into withdrawing a statement which he is perfectly entitled to make. That Is going through this city and this country in the next two or three days.” Mr. Hislop said he would not say more at present, for the matter was being taken further, but much more would be heard of it.
