AIR FORCE RELATIONS MEETINGS

The monthly meeting of the Air Force Relations was held in the Y.M.C.A. Lounge on Monday afternoon, Mis. Millen presiding. The attendance was large and a very happy atmosphere prevailed. The meeting opened with the National Anthem and the prayer for airmen, and sympathy was expressed to the relatives of the late Flying-Officer Bernard Jones. Correspondence dealt with included a number of letters from parents of airmen who have been farewelled by the A.F.R. These letters expressed keen appreciation of these functions and of the work the association was doing.

Mrs. Millen, on behalf of members, congratulated Mrs. Brown on the award gained by her son, Flying-Offi-cer Devon Brown, D.F.C. All were very proud of Devon, who has done remarkably well. Mrs. Brown was asked to receive a beautiful shoulder spray, which was presented by Mrs. Deere, mother of Flight-Lieutenant Alan Deere, D.F.C. and bar.

Reports were given of the visit of the R.N.Z.A.F. Band, a recent farewell and the improvements made to the office. The latter included gifts of a heater and an electric jug, the donors being thanked by acclamation. It was decided that Air Force Relations make as many parcels for the Wanganui quota as funds for the purpose permit. The forthcoming Queen Carnival was discussed and it was decided that A.F.R. give their wholehearted support to the Air Force Queen. Several suggestions were made for raising funds and a meeting of interested members will be held at an early date. A nomination for the Air Force Queen was made, the choice of members being definitely unanimous. As this is Wanganui’s month for the A.N.A. Club hamper, funds were provided as had been previously agreed upon. Two delightful solos were contributed by Mrs. Palmer, accompanied by Mrs. Pye, and two humorous elocutionary items by Mrs. Piper were greatly enjoyed. A number of interesting letters from boys overseas were read; several acknowledged parcels sent by A.F.R. A splendid collection of knitted garments was received from the Sunshine Club, this generous gift being much appreciated. The president addressed the members on the activities of Air Force Relations; several points were explained and the general conduct of the work made very clear. Afternoon tea brought to a close a very interesting meet ing.
