FINANCIAL POSITION WAITOTARA COUNTY COUNCIL “The financial position, has slightly improved compared with the previous year,” stated Mr. W. Morrison (chairman) in his annual report tabled at the monthly meeting of the Waitotara County Council yesterday. The council commenced the year with a debit of £1255. The receipts from all sources totalled £36,675 (last year £41,760) and the payments amounted to £35,293 (last year £41,787), and the bank balance was a credit of £127 at the end of the year. The indebtedness at March 31, 1940, amounted to £26,364, during the year amounting to £1249 was paid, the indebtedness now standing at £25,115. The interest paid on loans amounted to £1094. As well as the above-men-tioned public debt there is still owing on the Makakuho Bridge loan the sum of £474.

It was possible to do w.th a lesser amount of Kan rctnies for tne Rapanui Highway reconstruction works, cou-couently, only £3si'o was borrow ed for the county’s share of the work instead of £5lOO as originally arranged. Special rates collected were insufficient by £ll6 to meet the interest and principal charges on special loans, the account having a debit of £236. This amount was transferred from the general account.
