TAUTANE STUD, LIMITED

SALE OF ABERDEEN ANGES FEMALE CATTLE

Messrs. Dalgety and Company, N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., and Williams and Kettle, Limited, in conjunction, held » highly successful reduction sale on the property at Waipukurau on Thursday, May 8. The attendance was not as large as had been anticipated, but was drawn from many parts of the North Island and the Nelson province. Certain cattle were most keenly competed for, whereas others failed to realise the price anticipated.

The recently imported bull, “Justice of Bywell,” was paraded at the commencement of the sale and the three cows mated to this bull realised the excellent average of 84 guineas, one of which was the top price of the sale namely "Quaff of Tautane," calved August, 1935, being purchased by Mr. A. McGallin, Waipukurau, at 164 guineas. The other two cows in calf to “Justice of Bywell” were both purchased by Mr. J. Handley, of Mangamauk at 53 and 36 guineas respectively. “Louisa of Tautane,” winner of seven championships, went cheaply to Mr. J. Ogilvie, of Masterton, at 45 guineas. The next lot, however, “Sark of Gwavas,” calved September, 1933, went to the well-known Taihape breeder, Mr. Joseph Webb, at 150 guineas.

The cattle bred by the Tautane Stud, Limited, numbered 91 lots, of which 76 lots were sold under the hammer, averaging £2O ss. The remainder of the offering comprised cattle bred by Mr. W. M. Meech and purchased at big displenshing sale in 1939, the majority being sold at prices up to 13 guineas. The various averages for the Tautane bred cattle sold were as follows: —47 cows averaged £24 10s Id; 12 calves averaged £7 17s 6d; 7 rising 3-year-old heifers averaged £22 14s 7d; 10 rising 2-year-old heifers averaged £l2 ss.
