FAREWELL EVENING Several friends gathered at “Netherby,” the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Southcombe, recently, as a surprise party to bid farewell to them before leaving for the Waikato district. A very pleasant evening was spent in cards and competitions. Mrs. Southcombe was presented with a dainty shoulder spray of chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern, and was attired in black and white figured sheer frock. The winners of the euchre were: Ladies, Mrs. J. Pepper, and men, Mr. W. Southcombe. Three amusing competitions were held and were won by Misses Betty Elmslie, Doris Clover and Mrs. I. Southcombe and partner. -After supper had been served Mr. J. Lupton, on behalf of the neighbours, asked Mr. and Mrs. Southcombe to accept a brass firescreen and bookends, and wished them the best of luck and health in the future. He also spoke of Mr. and Mrs. Southcombe s popularity as neighbours, and said they would be greatly missed from the district. Mr. Southcombe, replying, thanked all for their useful gifts and good wishes. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Southcombe, Mrs. J. Pepper, Mr. W. Southcombe, Mr. and Mrs. T. Clover, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Elmslie, Mr. and Mrs. J. Lupton, Mr. and Mrs. I. Southcombe, Mrs. J. Farr; Misses N. Lupton. CARD EVENING A very enjoyable card evening and dance was held on Friday evening at Kohi, in aid of funds for the hall. The winners of the flag “500” were Mr. and Mrs. D. Milne and Mr. and Mrs. R. Milne. The box of chocolates was won by Miss Gwen Lambie. After cards a dance was held to music supplied by Mrs. C. H. Harden and Miss Estelle Hammond. Among those present were: —Mr. and Mrs. W. Morrison, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Harden, Mrs. Gulliver, Mr. and Mrs. G. Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. J. Bourke, Mr. and Mrs. R. Milne, Mr. and Mrs. D. Milne.
