Mr. R. A. Dickel, M.A., headmaster of the Reefton District High School, has been appointed an inspector oi schools.
Dr. E. Marsden, secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, has returned after a visit to Australia.
Mr. R. R. Wakely, Wanganui district officer of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, has entered the Wanganui Public Hospital for treatment.
Mr. D. M. Rae, principal of the Auckland Teachers’ Training College, who entered a private hospital last week on account of a sudden illness, is now reported to be making progress.
Mr. T. E. Wilson, Waitotara, who was re-elected unopposed as a director of the Okoia Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., yesterday, was, at a subsequent meeting of the directors, re-elected chairman of directors.
Messrs. W. G. Herd and James Patterson were last night elected life members of the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band, tribute being paid to the services they had rendered the band for the past 20 years.
Mr. J. E. Hancox, of the staff of the Wellington Harbour Board and formerly of Christchurch, has been appointed sub-lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and has left for England to serve with the Royal Navy.
Dr. D. H. Symes has been appointed surgeon-lieutenant in the New Zealand naval forces, according to a notice in the Gazette. He is appointed to H.M.S. Philomel, to await passage to England, where he will serve with the Royal Navy for about one year.
Sergeant-Major Daly, of Waverley, while on leave from Trentham camp, was presented with a wristlet Latch. Mr. J. J. Johnston, chairman of the Waverley Town Board, made the presentation on behalf of the peop.le of Waverlev.
Mr. J. McKnight, Nukumaru, who has been a director of the Okoia Cooperative Dairy Company, Ltd., since 1933, did not seek re-election at the annual meeting yesterday. A vote of thanks was passed to him for his valued services on the directorate. Mr. L. G. Monk, No. 2 Line, was elected to the vacancy.
Mr. B. G. Jackson, M.A., Dip. Ed., has been promoted to commissioned rank in the New Zealand military forces. Lieutenant Jackson is an old pupil of the Wanganui Technical College. He enlisted from North Auckland, where he was on the staff of Maungaturoto District High School. Before taking his appointment he had charge of Bell's Junction School, Taihape, where he was prominent in football and tennis.
The late Mr. T. Alexander, Maxwell, was chairman of directors of the Okoia Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., for a period of 10 years. He was a director for 17 years. At the annual meeting of shareholders and suppliers, held in Wanganui yesterday morning, the chairman of directors, Mr. T. E. Wilson (Waitotara) referred to the long and valued service Mr. Alexander had rendered for the company. Those present at the meeting stood in silence as a mark of respect.
