UNDER CLOAK OF WAR EMERGENCY
SOCIALISATION THREAT ALLEGED STATEMENT BY OTAGO GARAGE PROPRIETORS I Per Press Association. | DUNEDIN, Aug. 13. That the petrol shortage is caused by economic conditions in the Dominion and not a world shortage or a dearth of talkers is alleged in a statement by the Otago Garage Proprietors, who state that while Dunedin garages have to operate under a cut of about 70 per cent, in the quantity handled last September the national effort for conservation is defeated by the wastefulness of Government services. The number of motor trade employees brought to unemployment is estimated at nearly 20,000, and an appeal is made for an extra 1.000,000 gallons a month. The statement alleges that essential food deliveries have been rationalised by proprietors but they are being hampered by additional pressure and under the cloak of war emergency are threatened with socialisation of their businesses. »»»»«•••••••••••••••••••••
