A SUCCESSFUL BALL (Own Correspondent.) OHAKUNE, Aug. 13. A most enjoyable and highly successful ball was held at the Majestic Theatre on Monday evening. The arrangements for the bail were in tiie capable hands of the Maoris Distress Fund Committee, held by the patron, Mr. P. Ruka, of Taihape. A crowd of approximately 300 people were in attendance and throughout the evening the merry crowd danced to excellent music provided by Gus Large's Swing Dance Band. Extras were played by Messrs. J. Tauri and J. Ruben. The hall was beautifully decorated with red. white and blue crepe paper, streamers, fernery and native trees, with Maori piupius hanging on the walls. The stage was decorated with numerous flags, this being carefully supervised by Mrs. P. Kuka. Ada Mareikura, Winnie Gray, Jim Tekaru, Peehi Waretini and John Greening. An excellent supper was provided by the Maori Distress Committee, while Messrs. B. Williams and Paul Mareikura capably carried out the duties of M. During the evening numerous novelty dances took place, the winners* being: Monte Carlo, Mr. W. Potaka and Miss Reynolds; lucky spot, Mrs. L. Kelly and partner. The dinner was won by Mr. Baldwin.
