ANOTHER BIG BATTLE

SOUTH-EAST COAST OF ENGLAND Received Aug. 13, 11.55 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 13. Another big air battle raged over the southeast coastal area of England this morning. An observer in a listening post said the enemy planes seemed to come in waves every two or three minutes. Another said there were hundreds of planes in the sky. The sound of Spitfires’ engines mingled with the roar of bombers. Machine-gun fire was heard distinctly. The battles were fought out mostly above the clouds, but eight Junkers, momentarily seen, met fierce anti-aircraft fire and flew back to the coast. Bomb explosions were heard.
