CONGRATULATIONS FROM TWO COUNTIES
HON. W. J. ROGERS, M.L.C. ELEVATION TO THE LITER HOUSE. Both the Wanganui and Waitotara County Councils have congratulated the Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., on is appointment to the Legislative Council. Mr.| A. H. Collins, chairman of the Wanganui County, said that the appointment seemed well deserved. All the members of the council supported that view. “Although we may differ with Mr. Rogers on many things we all have a high regard for him and we think his appointment was well merited,” said the chairman of the Waitotara County Council, Mr. W. Morrison, moving that a letter of congratulation be forwarded. “Wanganui has been neglected for a great many years and there has been only one M.L.C. before Mr. Rogers, who definitely lived in Wanganui (Hon. Gilbert Carson). The newspapers have referred to the Hon. Robert Pbarazyn, who owned the Marahou estate at Nukumaru, but he had a manager on it. Mr. Pharazyn lived in Wellington. It is only natural that when Governments make these appointments they appoint their own supporters. All Governments do that,” Mr. Morrison added, with further reference to Mr. Rogers. Seconding the motion, Cr. A. A. Winwood said that Mr. Rogers was well worthy of the honour and was a very fair man in all things. “I have noticed the respect in which Mr. Rogers is held,” said Cr. L. T. Jones, speaking more particularly about hospital matters. “He takes a wonderful interest and for tenacity of purpose, I do not think any man in Wanganui better deserved the honour.”
