Fordell Red Cross Carnival. Games, dancing, and stalls laden with country produce are among the attractions at a monster grand carnival to be held by the Fordell Red Cross sub-centre in the Public Hall on Thursday evening next, August 15, at 7.30 p.m.

Acknowledgment. Comforts for soldiers in hospital have been received by the senior lad} district officer in response to the St. John Ambulance Brigade appeal. Parcels from Mrs. S. Priest, Mrs. C. Moosman, Mrs. W. Morrison (Maxwell), Miss Edna Morrison, Mrs. J. W. Fossette, and Mrs. Morcan are gratefuly acknowledged.

Preparatory School Concert. The preparatory school pupiLs of the Wanganui Girls’ College will present their concert to-night at 7.30 in the College Assembly Hall, the proceeds being for Y.M.C.A.-Y.W.C.A. funds for local purposes. The programme includes musical items, percussion band numbers and three plays specially written for children. This will be the last concert given by the preparatory school, as this department closes at the end of the year.

Choir Member Farewelled. Mr. Colin Sherriff, who is leavingwith the Third Echelon, was entertained by members of the choir of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church at an after-church social on Sunday night, when members of the congregation were invited to be present. The minister, Rev. A. C. McLean, and Mrs. McLean, also the Rev. and Mrs. A. H. Norrie, of Westmere, were present. An enjoyable supper was served. The Rev. McLean referred to excellent work done by Mr. Sherriff, first in the Sunday School, then in the Bible Class, and as divinity student at the Univeristy.

Y.M.C.A. Ladies’ Auxiliary. The ladies’ auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A. held their monthly meeting during the week, when Mrs. J. A. Hair, president, was in the chair. It was decided to hold the annual shop day and jumble sale in conjunction with the big street appeal, and arrangements ror this were dealt with and stalls allotted Two new members were proposed and accepted. Those present were Mesdames Hair, Rowling, J. McDougal, Lambert, Fossette, T. Ellis, Falconer, J. McFarlane, Dow, Tullock, Simpson, Summerell and Miss Jordan. Afternoon tea served by the president and secretary terminated the meeting.

Silver Wedding Celebrated. Mr. and Mrs. George Todman, Wanganui East, celebrated the silver anniversary of their wedding in Hylton Hall, Aramoho. They were married at St. Stephen’s Church, Forest Gate, London, England, in 1915. Mr. Todman served for three years in the Great War, and was invalided out of the Army in 1918, and because of illhealth came to New Zealand in 1922. Both Mr. and Mrs. Todman have been associated with 1.0.0. F. Order in Wanganui for many years, Mr. Todman having been president of the Past Grands’ Association, while Mrs. Todman has occupied all the main offices of her lodge. Mr. Todman is also well known in music circles. They received many presents. Mrs. G. Garrud presented them with a cake, which was iced by Mrs. A. Flyger. Mrs. R. Senior Partridge and Miss I. Garrud sang appropriate songs, and Misses K. and E. Todman contributed piano duets. Mr. G. Garrud (proposed the toast of the guests of honour during the cutting of the cake, while Mr. A. W. Todman proposed the toast of absent friends. Dance music was prodded by members of the Melody lakers’ orchestra. Sergeant R. Roche ■as M.C.

A. Partridge, Glasgow Street, to James Gordon Randle, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Randle, Durie HJU, Wanganui.
