MOTOR CONCENTRATIONS BOMBED
R.A.F. ATTACKS ON PLANES AND DROMES ADEN AND GIBRALTAR RAIDED BY ITALIANS [ British Official Wireless. J RUGBY. Aug. 11 A Royal Air Force communique issued in Cairo states: “Military camps and motor transport concentrations in Garba and the Sales area have been successfully attacked by our bombers, all of which returned safely. The wreckage of a Savoia bomber washed ashore near Qasaba is believed to be the aircraft which was reported to have been intercepted and damaged by our fighters on August 4. In East Africa the Barnotu aerodrome and dispersed aircraft have been bombed and machine-gunned.
“A formation of Savoia bombers raided R.A.F. landing grounds in the Sudan without causing damage or casualties to R.A.F. personnel. ‘Tn a raid on Karrim Pass in Somaliland, bombs fell among antiaircraft positions, some of which were silenced. Our aircraft returned safely. Enemy troop concentrations and an important water hole near Dubats were attacked. Twice bombs were seen to fall on a motor transport column.” A Rome communique states: “Italian planes bombed Erkovit airfield, scoring direct hits on 15 planes on the ground. All the Italian planes returned safely after enemy pursuit planes were driven off. A British plane attempting to bomb Elauk was brought down and the pilot, with th“ rank of captain, was taken prisoner.”
