WESTMERE DAIRY COMPANY

ANNUAL MEETING HELD MANAGER COMPLIMENTED ON HIGHLY-GRADED CHEESE. At the annual meeting of the shareholders and suppliers of the Westmere Co-op. Dairy Co. Ltd., held at the Westmere Hall, Mr. A. R. Laird, chairman of directors, presided. The meeting was well attended. In reviewing the company’s operations during the past season, the chairman referred to the success of the manager, Mr. C. S. Dickinson, and his staff in the cheese section at the winter shows.

"Among the cheese companies grading at Wanganui Port, this company was placed second, with 92.631 points, which was a very satisfactory result,” said Mr. Laird. “Although manufacturing costs had increased slightly, our costs still favourably compare with those of other factories. There is every indication that the cheese output this season will be increased as a result of the appeal of the Government for greater production of cheese for shipment to Great Britain.' The directors’ report, and the statement of accounts for the year ended June 30. 1940, together with the auditor's report, were adopted. Messrs. E. C. Morgan and G. H. Murray, retiring directors, were reelected. Mr. W. M. Falconer, F.P.A., N.Z., was re-elected to the position of auditor. The chairman stated that on the advice of officers of the Dairy Division, a new starter room had been erected away from the factory. During the past season the failure of cheese starters had given considerable trouble, and it was hoped that that would now be eliminated. As 1940 was the 25th. anniversary of the company’s existence, it had been intended to hold a suitable celebration. Because of the war situation, however, it was <’"?ided to post-

pone the function until future date. Donations of £1 Is each were made to the Westmere and Brunswick Boys’ and Girls’ Calf Clubs. The meeting concluded with votes of thanks passed to the manager and his staff, and the secretary (Mr. T. R. Ballingall) and his staff, and to the chairman.
