AUCKLAND WEST SEAT
OFFICIAL LABOUR CANDIDATE MR. P. CARR SELECTED [ Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 25. The selection of Mr. P. Carr as the official Labour Party candidate to contest the by-election for the Auckland West seat in the House of Represen - tatives, rendered vacant by the deatn of the late Mr. Savage, was announced at a meeting of members of the Aucklarid West branch of the Labour Party and affiliated trades unions living in the electorate, held at Ponsonby, on Wednesday night. The meeting was not open to the Press, but the Hon. D. Wilson, M.L.C. said the announcement had been enthusiastically’ recehed. He stated there had been 12 nominees for the position, and that nine who attended the, meeting promised Mr. Carr their wholehearted support. The following resolution was carried unanimously: "That this meeting of Labour Party members resident In Auckland West electorate pledges its wholehearted support to the selected candidate. Mr. Carr, and pledges itself to do everything possible to secure his return at the head of the poll on May 18.” A tramway motorman in the employ of the Auckland Transport Board, Mr. Carr is a member of the Auckland City Council, and has been president of the Auckland Tramway’s Union for 10 years. He was born at Papakura in 1884.
