AIR FORCE TRIBUTE
Piloted by Flying-Officer H. L. Tancred, a New Zealand Royal Air Force aeroplane, from the training school at Ohakea, flew low over Cook’s Gardens during the. service yesterday afternoon and dropped at wreath of poppies. It was a gesture in tribute to fallen airmen and it had special significance in that, only an hour or so before, many of the audience had heard the 8.8. C. announcer broadcast news of more raids upon the Nazi enemy by the R.A.F. The ominous concluding words were: “One of our machines failed to return!”
