The annual meeting of the Raetihi branch of the W.D.F.U. was heir in the Druids’ Hall on Thursday when the president, Mrs. Sommerville, presided over a large attendance of members and friends. The meeting opened with the reading of the Creed. Several apologies were received and greetings were received from Mesdames Polson and McPhail, Wanganui, Miss Risk, Ohura and Mrs. Mitchinson, at present in Wellington. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read anti confirmed. The president, in presenting the 12th. annual report, clearly outlined the activities and community efforts for the past year, and was congratulated on her very excellent report. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mrs. Sommerville (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mesdames Houghton, Ward senr., F. Mitchinson. and F. Todd; secretary, Mrs. K. Lynch; house-keeping secretary, Mrs. C. Houghton; committee, Mesdames Frederick, R. Bell, Solly, Barnard, L. Baird, D. McLean. Volkerling. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. F. L. Lee, auditor; wno was re-elected. Mrs. Mitchinson was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for her work as secretary for so many years, and votes of thanks were also passed to Mesdames Coker and Houghton for their efforts in connection with the ale of the Institute for the Blind basket ware. Being Centennial year, Mrs. Sommerville was delighted to welcome Mesdames Scarrow, senr., Houghton, Meyer, and McArthur, the foundation members present, who were presented with posies and accoraed musical honours. Shoulder sprays were also presented to the president, retiring vice-presi-dents, secretary, and Mrs. Ward, senr. The beautiful floral tributes were the work of Mrs Todd, with the assistance of Mrs. Ward and Mrs. Frederick. A nice idea was the banner of welcome banked with flowers just inside the door. A number of Farmers’ Union members accepted the invitation to afternoon tea, and on their behalf Mr. Frederick 'wished the W.D.F.U. a happy and successful year. Mrs. Sommerville, in a few well cnosen words, suitably replied. A solo, “A Perfect Day,” sung by Mrs. Lynch, accompanied by Mrs Todd and a competition, which was won by Mrs. R. B. Davies, added to the enjoyment of the afternoon. The “bring and buy" table did brisk 1 business and swelled the funds consid- ■ erably. Holding pride of place was the beautifully decorated birthday cake | made and presented by Mrs. Som--1 merville. I Members dispensed afternoon tea | and brought a happy and successful day to a close.
