ST. JOHN’S CLUB

COMPETITIONS COMPLETED. FINAL OF FERNS DECIDED. The final of the St. John’s Bowling Club “Ferns” competition was played on Monday evening, and this Completed all club competition. The finalists were Shaw, Henry, W. Pepper and Herd, who won Section A, and Hay, Scott, W. Brown and Mackay, who won section B. Mackay's rink were the winners of a well-contested game and the result was full justification for Mackay’s promotion to the rank of skip. The Supplementary Pairs were finalised last Saturday, the winners being Allen and Stringer, who had played consistently well throughout the competition. The B Singles final was played after the previous summary was published and. resulted in a win for Guy, who defeated Easton after a game in which each in turn was ahead. Both finalists are fine players, Guybeing a club three and Easton a lead. The “C,” or colts, pairs saw Allen and Davidson with the best record in the section play, where each pair met the others. The same pair, Allen and Davidson, fought out the final of the C Singles, after Allen had defeated Scott in a preliminary game, Davidson, Allen and Scott having tied in section play. Allen was the winner in a game which was most interesting and produced excellent play by both. Allen thus has the distinction of being triple winner—Supplementary Pairs, C Pairs and C Singles. This is a splendid performance. Another final that has not been remarked on was the “B” Pairs final, in which F. Smith and C. Hay defeated Anderson and G. Smith. The winning pair played particularly well, the veteran winning head excelling himself and Hay doing his part well. G. Smith must be nearly the club’s record “runner-up.” The season will be officially closed to-morrow when all-day and afternoon tournaments will be played commencing at 9 a.m. and 1.45 p.m. respectively. The club’s singles champion. Jim Glover, brought honour to the club by winning the Centre Cha.?ipion of Champions competition, nis form being so steady that he was the popular pick.
