Farewell Social and Dance. To farewell the Hunterville members of the Second Echelon, a social and dance has been arranged to takc place in the Town Hall, Hunterville, on Tuesday, March 26. Easter Bride. A very enjoyable “pantry” afternoun was held at the residence of Mrs. Gilmour on Friday afternoon in honour of Miss K. Walker, who is to be married at Easter. Items were given by Mrs. Tizard, Mrs. Wellard and Miss Gilmour. Two competitions were held, Mrs. Ford and Mrs. Tizard being the winners. A very dainty afternoon tea was served, after which the bride-to-be opened the many useful gifts. Pre-Wedding Party and Presentations. Miss G. Carveil, who is to oe an Easter bride, was recently entertained at a party given at the Rendezvous by her sisters, Mesdames Shaw and Whitelaw, and mother, Mrs. E. Carvell. Among others present were ■Mesdames Dann, Bristol, Byers, Clarkson, Church, Sullivan, Milloy, Anderson, Kimber Harris, Misses Blackman, Chelley, Summerill, Kenner, Bailey, Church, Carveil and Sykes. Miss Carvell was the recipient of a lovely dinner set from the management and staff of the D.1.C., and the tea room staff presented her with a wall mirror. Another “Achilles” Wedding. A gown of pale pink stiffened net and a hand-worked pink veil were worn by Miss Billie Obuglien, youngter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Obuglien, Auckland, when she baceme the bride last week, of Leading-Signaller William Rudd, H.M.S. Achilles. The wedding was solemnised at St. Matthew’s Church, Auckland, and the reception took place at the New Savoy Rooms. The 70 guests included a number of men from H.M.S. Achilles. impressive Gathering. One of the highlights of the Dominion conference of the League of Mothers held in Wellington last week was a gathering at the Exhibition Assembly Hall, when the hall was crowded with members and friends from all parts of New Zealand. Inspiring speeches were given by proj vincial presidents and several mem- • bers of the executive. A feature of | the meeting was the impressive i massed singing by 25 league choirs, many coming from distant parts of | the province. Mrs. English, the new I Dominion president of the League of | Mothers, said that if their beloved . founder, Lady Alice Fergusson, could ■ be with them that afternoon, it would : be in a spirit of thanksgiving, for her i dreams would be realised. Lady : Elliott, who had recently visited Lady ■ Alice Fergusson at her beautiful ; home in Ayrshire, delivered a message sent by Lady Alice to the League of Mothers in New Zealand, and said , that the knowledge that the work of i the league in New Zealand progress?d j and developed in acordance with the . principles upon which it .had been founded, was a great joy to its founder. In their beautiful home, Lady Alice, with her husband, Sir Charles Fergusson, lived a life of public service, based on religious faith and service to others.
