HEARING OF WATERSIDE WORKERS’ DISPUTE MR JUSTICE TYNDALL'S FIRST COURT. [ P’r Association.] WELLINGTON, March 20. The Court recognises that this dispute has first place and proposes Io make as early a fixture as possible,” said Mr. Justice Tyndall in the Arbitration Court when Mr. G. E. Bennett, general secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Employers’ Association, asked for an early fixture for the Dominion waterside workers’ dispute. Mr. Bennett said it should have been before the Court in Feoiuary :ast year. Since then a lot of publicity had been given the delay c-r.d the employers had been blamed lor that delay. “We are here to-day pie-
pared to go >n with the case, but theie is no appearance of the otnei s : de.’’ he said. “We are in no way to blame for the delay.” Mr. Justice Tyndall: "The Coin I fuiiy understands that, Mr. Bennett, and will make as early a fixture as possible to suit the convenience of bot'i sides. The Court will give r n undertaking that if you and Mr J. Roberts (N.Z./ Waterside Workers’ Union (secretary) agree on a date the Court will fix that date. Mr. Bennett said the case would prcbably take four days. It was agreed to make a fixture on April 2. Mi. Justice Tyndall was pi.esii : ng over the first sitting of the Court in Wellington since his appointment and was welcomed by Mr. W. J. Mount joy for the employers, Mr. J. R. Hanlon for the Labour Department, and Mr. T. J. L. Tucker for the unions. All assured him cf the co-operation of those they represented. Wellington work will occupy the Court for at least two months. Several fixtures have been made to April 5.
