Qt ESTIOX or CONTINUANCE AUCKLAND WORKERS VOTE I F«r Pr«« Aaaoclatloa.) AUCKLAND, July 18. To lost the opinion of workers a.' to whether lhe Auckland waterfront labour bureau system should be continued, a secret ballot of members of the Auckland Waterside Workers’ Union was hold to-day. The result of th? ballot will bn a inounced to-n.orrow. The Waterfront Labour Bureau has now been ; n operation ’ A’leklinl since September, 1937, and it i.s considered that sufficient time has now been given for the merits and demerits of the system to be judged. Devised to eliminate the old “auction block" method of selecting men for work on the wharves, the bureau system has met with fairly general approval among workers. The fact that work is allotted to men on the rotation principle is disliked by some sections while others are averse to the working of the penalty clauses. The ballot held las£ week by the Wellington Union decided by 1036 votes to 327 to continue the waterfront labour bureau system in Wellington.
