ELLERSLIE TRACKS

AUCKLAND MEETING YESTERDAY’S OPERATIONS I Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 12. Features of the semi-final gallops for the Auckland autumn meeting at Ellerslie this morning were an attractive six furlongs by Stretto, and a mile by Knight of Australia, while Royal Appellant and Rereatu went particularly well over seven furlongs. The course proper, on which the poles were out 50ft. from the rails, was available for fast work, and provided first-class going. No. 3 grass track and the tan were also in use. Kilonsa. after commencing slowly over a round, completed her task in 2.17 1-5. She increased the pace over the last seven furlongs, which took 1.34 1-5. She worked well, but was not unduly bustled.

Knight of Australia, with Bonny Belle (Tremain) to assist him over the last five furlongs, registered an attractive trial over a mile. He ran the first half in 52 2-ssec.. and the full distance in 1.44 3-5. This time has seldom been bettered. Stretto went particularly well over six furlongs, which she ran in 1.17. She covered the first three in 38 2-5 sec., and was doing her work well at the end. Fleetwind and Aeto King got to the end of five furlongs in 1.4 2-5. It was a good effort and there was little between them at the finish. Surella reeled off half a mile in 50 3-ssec. This was also a smart gallop. Llangollen, after running her first half-mile in 51 2-ssec., had a bit in reserve at the end of seven furlongs in 1.32 3-5. She was showing slight signs of soreness as a result of bruising her foot last week, but she is improving, and it is not likety to affect her.

In a similar task Rereatu and Royal Appellant recorded 1.31 4-5. They ran the first half-mile in 52 2-ssec., and although Rereatu had the advantage at the finish, Royal Appellant was on the outside and had to cover extra ground. Jack Tar was going particularly well at the conclusion of a six furlong run in 1.18 4-5, the last half-mile being covered in 53sec. Shy and Glenogil were in front of Te Hai and Mai de Mer after traversing six furlongs in 1.18 3-5. Te Hai appeared to have a bit in reserve. Sir Abb was given useful work on No. 3 grass track, and Kilberis was allotted a similar task.

High Star completed a round on the sand in 2.6 1-5. Master Musk was schooled over eight hurdles in the centre. He got round safely, but his jumping was a bit patchy. Adsum, Count Rousillion, and Neil were sent over a round of the steeplechase course. They started at the sodwall at the top of the straight and after clearing the second fence of the double, Neil was pulled up owing to one of his leathers giving way. Tre other pair continued on, Adsum leading his companion by a number of lengths all the way. Count Rousillion ran down the first fence of the double badly and blundered at the second obstacle when they came over the fences on the flat the" last time, unseating his rider. After being remounted he cleared the last fences safely. Later Neil completed the round giving a first-class display.

The latest arrivals include Russian Pallet, Icing, Rehearsal and Race Call.
