WANGANELLA DAMAGED

COLLISION WITH TRAWLER TRIP TO MELBOURNE OFF VESSELS RETURNING TO SYDNEY. (By Telegraph-Press Association—CopyrigMl SYDNEY, Dee. 28. Advice has been received in Sydney that the motor vessel Wanganella, en route from Sydney to Melbourne came into collision to-day with th< trawler Durraween, 18 miles off Mon tague Island. Both vessels were slightly damaged. At first it was reported that the Wanganella was standing by the Durraween, but later advice said that both were returning to Sydney. The Wanganella will be unable to complete her voyage to Melbourne and arrangements are being made to take her passengers south by other services. The Wanganella suffered damage amidships, but the full extent is not yet known. It is not disclosed whether or not it is below the waterline. No casualties have been reported.

The nature of the damage to the trawler has not been reported to Sydney. Captain Bates, commander ol the Wanganella, radioed that he expected to reach Sydney about foul this afternoon.

The Wanganella has 108 passenger! aboard, including 55 from New Zealand.

The Deputy Director of Navigation, Captain Roskruge, stated that a collision occurred at 1.40 this morning.

WANGANELLA DOCKED PASSENGERS TRANSFERRED Received Dec. 28, 11.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 28. The Wanganella full-steamed to the wharf where her Melbourne passengers were transferred to the InterState liner Orungal, which sailed at 5 p.m. Reticence is being observed in regard to the collision, but it is understood that the damage to the Wanganella is not serious. A few plate.* were sprung and there is slight leaking. No casualties occurred and the passengers were no inconvenienced The Wanganella was immediately docked ana her sailing for Auckland was postponed from December 31 tc January 3. The Durraween, which is due here about midnight, suffered hardlv any damage.
