The Auckland Trotting Club's summer meeting opened at Epsom to-day under perfect sunny conditions. The attendance was 18,000, compared with 15,000 last year. The track was fast. Tempest began to tire along the back and once in line for the post, Willow Wave challenged and outstayed King’s Warrior to win by a neck. Lucky Jack was two lengths away, third, followed by Tempest, Roi I’Or, Indianapolis and Bonny Azure. The cup was presented to the owners of Willow Wave, Messrs D. Windle and W. McDonald, by the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, who also handed a goldmounted whip to the jockey.
