PLENTY OF ACTION

“HOPALONG RIDES AGAIN.” "Hopalong Rides Again”—to give you the fastest-moving, most thrillpacked adventure of the Old West—in "Hopalong Rides again,” latest of the Clarence E. Mulford thrillers, screening at the Regent Theatre on Saturday next. The cast of "Hopalong Rides Again” is headed by that favourite of ali Western fans, William Boyd, playing the role of "Hopalong Cassidy” lor the thirteenth consecutive time. The film opens with Hopalong receiving orders to drive a herd of cattle through dangerous Black Buttes gulch, in order to save time in getting them to the shipping town. Black Buttes gulch is the hide-out of a notorious gang of cattie-thieves, and Hopalong is doubtful of the wisdom of going this way. However, he follows orders. In the finish the rustlers are rounded up, and the rustler chief killed in a scene which, for sheer excitement and breath-taking actioft, equals anything brought to the screen in a long, long time.

On the same programme “Partners in Crime” is an airy, light-hearted bit of mystery that draws a lot of entertainment from the antics of Roscoe Karns and Lynne Overman, two of the funniest players in Hollywood to-day.

Laurel and Hardy Suits. “I’m a problem actor! At least that's what Harry Black, head of the Hal Roach wardrobe department, asserts,” says Oliver Hardy. “You see, my 303 pounds don’t allow very dainty measurements. As a result, Harry can't buy anything ready made for me. When Stan and I wear shabby clothes Harry can dress Stan in clothes purchased in second-hand stores, but he can't do me that way. It's my size that rebels.” The rotund, pompous character portrayed by Oliver Hardy is appearing with his famous cry-baby team-mate, Stan Laurel in “Way Out West," the Hal Roach M-G-M feature comedy. And the problem of secondhand clothes becomes evident to tire audience for the comic team appears in well-worn prospector’s garments. "However, by a little ingenuity," Hardy said, “Harry got me all decked up in proper style.” Now a hint to tile man looking for a job who may be embarrassed by the fact that ad his clothes arc brand-new, giving too prosperous an appearance. Just take a little beeswax and rub in into the elbows, the seat and across the back of your suit. If that doesn't give a shiny appearance, let some candles drip on those spots. That’s sure to lix you up. Burnt umber and burnt Sienna rubbed in with a little grease will give the desired rusty appearance. But your shoes? Just contact your nearest carpenter and instruct him to put. the soles of the shoes against the sandbuffer or the emery wheel and turn the soles down to the toe. On the uppers, this process is guaranteed to give a thoroughly satisfactory scuffed appearance.” One advantage ol being a problem actor for a studio wardrobe, if one listens to Mr. Hardy, is that there's no pushing him about with rush wardrobe calls. “They have to figure pretty well ahead about me,” lie says, “and even if my clothes arc shabby in pictures, beneath that appearance lies an honest hand-tailored i costume.” I
