SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Adams and Miss Adams, of Wellington, are visiting Wanganui. * * # * Miss Ruth Billens, who has been visiting Wanganui, has returned to Palmerston North. Mrs. W. S. Glenn and her daughter, Miss Neville Glenn, have returned to Wanganui after a four months’ lour of the East.

Mrs. R. D. Tosswill, formerly of Wanganui and now of Wellington, and who recently returned from England, paid a brief visit to this city last week and met many old friends during her short stay.

Mrs. Alton Rhodes, of Rata, and Miss J. Aidworth, of Silverhope, who are visiting Wanganui for the provincial golf championships, are the guests of Mrs. G. A. McDougal, St. John’s Hill.

Mrs. F. P. Monaghan, of Hawera, who has been holidaying in Wellington, Strived in Wanganui on Monday evening on a visit to her daughter, Mrs. C. Carmody, Kawatiri Avenue, prior to returning home.

Several members of the Wanganui branch of the League of Mothers intend motoring to Wellington on Friday to attend the provincial executive meeting being held there on Friday afternoon. Those who are going down include Mrs. N. Driver (president), who will stay in Wellington for some time, Mrs. C. Ryan (secretary), Mesdames Uttley and Hardy (vicepresidents), who will be the guests of Mrs. H. W. Kersley, and Mrs. Greagor.

The Countess of Bective, wife of the Earl of Bective, of Froyle Place, Alton, Hants, England, and her son, Sir Rupert Clarke, third baronet of Rupertswood, Victoria, Australia, arrived on Monday by the Aorangi. The Countess, who has not been to New Zealand since 1922, will visit her property at Taupo. ENGAGEMENTS DOIG—WILSON The engagement is announced of Joyce, younger daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Alexander Wilson, to Horace George, younger son of Mr. Andrew and the late Mrs. Doig. BRADLEY—MCDONALD The engagement is announced of Jessie (Babs), elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. McDonald, Kaiwhaiki, Wanganui River, to Henry Meredith, only son of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Bradley, of Aramoho, late of Waverley.
