N.Z. CRICKETERS GOWER’S TEAM MAKES 380 SCARBOROUGH MATCH (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association.) SCARBOROUGH, Sept. 8. The New Zealand cricketers commenced a three-day match to-day against Leveson Gower’s XI, the match being the last to be played at the famous Festival of Scarborough. Leveson Gower’s team, which constitutes one of the hardest propositions of the tour, won the toss and had first use of a perfect wicket, the match being started in fine weather. At stumps Leveson Gower’s team was all out tor 380 runs (Wyatt 98). The teams are:— Leveson Cover's Team.—Wyatt, Sellers, Maxwell, Brown, Yardley, Barnett, Gimblett, Hardstaff, Wellard, Nichols, Gover. New Zealand.—Moloney, Wallace, Kerr, Hadlee, Lamason, Donnelly, Cowie, Gallichan, Roberts, Lowry, Weir. Although at the fag eM of an arduous tour the New Zealanders bowled a)iu fielded with commendable zest. The wicket and outfield favoured the batsmen, who displayed restraint practically throughout the innings and were several times barracked for their sjlow scoring. Lowry again frequently varied the attack: Cowie, Roberts, Weir, Gallichan, Moloney, and Donnelly were used for short spells, and there were fourteen bowling changes before lunch. The first three wickets fell for 60 runs, but Wyatt once more fought determinedly in a crisis, being assisted by Yardley, Nichols, and Maxwell. Donnelly’s Fielding. The New Zealand fielding was keen with Donnelly outstanding, taking a fine catch on the square-leg boundary and brilliantly throwing a man out from square leg. The later batsmen hit brilliantly, Brown hitting four 4’s and cne 6 in one over by Gallichan. I’he spin bowlers persevered despite the severe punishment they received, Moloney and Galichan achieving well-deserved successes. Wyatt was in for nearly four hours.
