The reserves have not been placed in order of merit, but according to positioning—Petersen for an inside position, Jones perferably foi a wing’s job, Stewart as a front row forward and AleClcnaghan for loose play.—‘ ‘ Cross-bar. ’ ’ GAY LOCKETT’S PLAY To the Editor: Sir, —In reading “Crossbar’s” notes on football in to-day’s paper I could not help noticing the mild way in which hu suggests that Gay Locket’, should be nominated for the North Island team. Now, sir, I have followed football for over thirty years and have played a bit and have seen some good players in that lime, including Seeling, Brownlie, Ale Williams, Porter and Co.. but I have never seen a better exhibition of forward play than was given by Gay Lockett on Tuesday last. Afost forwards have their spells in a game, but Locke't goes from whistle to whistle, and if I was picking a New Zealand team he would he the first forward I would pick.—l am, etc., JACK HOGAN. Lockett has always been a hard player and has maintained the vim he has always been noted for, but, this season, his control of the ball has added’the lustre to his play which was lacking to some extent in former years. —“Cross-bar. ”
