KING’S BIRTHDAY

CELEBRATION WEEK-END PROGRAMME BEGINS TO-DAY Wanganui’s programme to fittingly celebrate the birthday of King Edward VIII., which falls next Tuesday, commences to-day, with the Wanganui Jockey Club’s winter race meeting. A comprehensive programme has been arranged, culminating with a Rugby-races attraction on Tuesday, the Rugby being the annual fixture between Manawatu and Wanganui, which is to be played in the morning prior to the second day’s races. Last, night the weather gave every indication of remaining flue. A change of wind from southerly to westerly was regarded as a good sign so for as temperatures are concerned, but not so gratifying in other respc.ts.
