Mr W. J. Rogers, Mayor of Wanganui, was a visitor to Palmerston North yesterday and returned to the city last evening. The Rev. A. H. Scriven, of Auckland, the general secretary of the Methodist Overseas Missions arrives in Wanganui to-day to conduct meetings next week, and will be the guest of Mrs E. Ziesler, Wivksteed Street. The Rev. A. N. Scottci, B A., chairman of the Hawke’s Biy-Manawatu Methodist Connexional D strict, will visit Wanganui to-morrow to conduct sjiecial services. He will be the guest of Mrs P. 8. Whitlock, Somme Parade. Mr F. s. Hill, head of theYoastal Shipping department of Da.gety aud Company, Ltd., who is to retile at the end of this month, was presented in Wellington on Wednesday w ; th a goldmounted umbrella and a set of pipes by the officers and men of the H-iwera anil Kapuni and members of the staff of the Wellington Harbour Board. M r Hill has been in the employ ot the firm for 24 years. Miss ISlizabeth Blake, honorary adviser to the British Drama League, and Miss Elizabeth Loe, of the Central’ School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art, London, will arrive in Wan-> ganui from Wellington this afternoon to attend the short senool of drama which opens to-night and continues until Tuesday night. Miss Blake will be the guest of Mrs. J. E. Bannister, of Liverpool Street, and Miss Loe will be the guest of Mrs. J. B. Jack, of St. John’s Hill. Mr. G. L. M. Schrader, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Schrader, of Hongotai, and an old boy of Scots College, who left Wellington in .March to join the Royal Air Force, -has had his application approved by the Air Ministry. He was to commence training on June 8 at Reading, where the training school of Phillips and Powis Aircraft, Ltd., is situated. After two months there he will report to Uxbridge for a fortnight. After that he will be posted to the No. 3 Flying Training School at Grantham for advanced flying training.
