FOR DAVIS CUP

AUSTRALIA AND U.S.A. CRAWFORD S GOOD FORM PRACTICE WITH McGRATH Received Mav 27, 9.30 p.m. GERMANTOWN, May 2G. Crawford showed his finest form of the training period to-Gay in taking two practice sets from McGrath. He had more power in his game than before, showed good speed on his service stroke and got beautiful depth with his ground strokes. Much of the time he had McGrath waging a combat from behind the baseline. Crawford’s backhand was also working nicely. Quist and Sproule engaged in several practice sets this morning. Tc-morrow both Australians and Americans will play on the grandstand centre court. FITNESS QUESTIONED AUSTRALIAN TENNIS TEAM QUIST AND McGRATH HURT NEW YORK, May 25. The Philadelphia correspondent of The Times says that the Australians are not as fit as they might be. Quist and McGrath, are bothered by a bad finger and a bad wrist, respectively. Quist’s blistered index finger troubled him to-day while he was playing a doubles match with Crawford against McGrath and Sproule. McGrath, who apparently fell on his arm last week, to-day had his right wrist bandaged, although this did not appear to interfere with his game. It is announced that Vincent Richards will act as practice coach for the Australians during the next few days. Sproule, the team’s manager, expressed satisfaction at having Riciiards on the sidelines for the last cruc’al days of training. Davis Cup officials anmunced that, contrary to the practice in past years, all singles will be played on the one court and the doubles on another. Previously- two courts were used for the singles.
