WANGANUI AIRPORT
RECONSTRUCTION WORK NEW SCHEME AFTER JUNE ! STANDARD RATES OF PAY Approximately 250 single men at present employed on the reconstruction work at the Wanganui Airport have been stood down and will be placed on sustenance of 17s a week. This decision has been necessary owing to the arrangement whereby the remainder of the workers are to be .employed at standard rates of pay under Public Works Depi”tmeiii condi’.iins on a contract basis. The new system is to Como into operation on June .1. Under the new conditions no time will be allowed off for wet weather but the workers will be given an opportunity of making up the lost time. At present, thr airport workers do not work if rain falls in the morning and conditions later improve sufficiently to allow operations to be carried out. After the end of the month they will commence work as soon as the weather Hears on such days in order to get in (heir •ini time for the week.
