“THE LONE WOLF RETURNS.” The romantic adventures of an international jewel thief turned honest form the plot of “The Lone Wolf Re turns,” Louis Joseph Vance’s famous novel, the latest screen version of which is screening finally to-night at the Majestic Theatre. The suave and handsome Melvyn Douglas plays the part of the gentleman cracksman, Michael Lanyard, alias the Lone Wolf. Specialising in the theft of jewels, the Lone Wolf succeeds in lifting a priceless pendant from the home of a wealthy New York society girl, played by the beautiful Gail Patrick, but when he Bees the girl and talks with her a miraculous desire to be honest overcomes him and his future actions are shaped accordingly. “The Thundering Herd.’’ With Randolph Scott and Judith Allen in the leading romantic roles, supported by such able Hollywood players as Buster Crabbe, Noah Beery, Raymond Hatton, Blanche Friderici, Harry Carey and Monte Blue, Paramount’s picturisation of Zane Grey’s romance of the great outdoors, “The Thundering Herd." will open to-mor-row at the Majestic Theatre. The picture, directed by Henry Hathaway, who has directed some of Paramount’s most recent Zane Grey pictures, was adapted by Jack Cunningham and Mary Flannery, and the entire story was filmed on location at Lone Pine, California. On the same programme ‘‘The Strange Conspiracy" pictures the kidnapping of the ruler of the United States, in an effort to hurl the country into a European war for the enrichment of munitions manufacturers.
