OLYMPIC TEAM

DEPARTURE DELAYED TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS WELLINGTON. May 8. Owing to the departure of the Wanganella for Sydney having been postponed, the members of the New Zealand Olympic Games team will not be leaving Wellington until to-day. The Wanganella was to have sailed at mid-day yesterday. T. Arbuthnot (Wellington;, one of the boxers, is to be the manager of the team on the voyage to England. On arrival in England the managership will be taken over by Dr, A. E. Pc-r--ritt and the team will also be joined by J. E. Lovelock, who is to be the captain of the team at the Olympic Games with Arbuthnot vice-captain. The members of the team were me:, last night by the New Zeal me. Olympic Games Council. Mr. H. McCormick, chairman of the council, explained that the New Zealanders would join the Australian team at Sydney, and from there to Marseilles would be really under the wing of the Australian manager, an arrangement which he though the New Zealand team would find a happy' one. The Australian team had expressed itself as pleased that the New Zealand team should join them. Mr. McCormick impressed on the team the necessity for punctuality and said that their principal job was to do their best. On behalf of the New Zealand Olympic Games Association he wished them the best of luck. Mr A. D. Bayfield also spoke, and Arbuthnot replied on behalf of the team. He said they would all be real triers. Earlier in the evening the three boxers—Arbuthnot, N. Fisher and C. Gordon —were met by the Council nf the New Zealand Boxing Association and were wished a safe and successful trip. They were told they were expected to be good sports whether they were winners or losers, and the hope was expressed also that on their return they would pass on to the younger amateur coming on the benefit of (he knowledge they gained overseas. The team is to travel to England from Australia in the Mongolia, whiih is scheduled to leave Sydney on May !3.
