MINISTERIAL The Hon. p. Webb, Afinister of Alines, was accorded a civic welcome at Waihi yesterday. He visited the Waihi High School, where he addressed a large concourse, including 500 children. During the remainder of the afternoon the Afinister received a deputation on mining matters and visited the Afartha Gold Alining Coy’s mine. He was entertained at dinner in the evening. Miss H. Carty, of Alelbourne, is visiting Wanganui and is a guest at Foster’s Hotel. * Air. Thornton Opie is an English visitor to the city and is staving at Foster’s Hotel. Leave of absence was granted to Air. T. Alexander at yesterday’s meeting of the Waitotara County Council. Mr. J. B. Cotterill, AI.P. for Wanganui, returned to the city last night after a visit to the South Island on railway business. Advice has been received from England that Air. K. A. Ballinger, of the city engineer’s staff, has passed his preliminary examination in th-e civil engineering course. Air. E. O. Erickson, managingdirector of Pepsodent (Aust.) Proprietary, Limited, has completed an extensive tour of New Zealand, and left Auckland by the Alonowai on Friday’ on his return to Australia. Lord Barnsby, the prominent English industrialist, and principal of one of the largest Bradford wool firms, who has been visiting the Dominion, was booked to leave Auckland by the Atariposa on Saturday for Honolulu. The Rev. W. Stevenson Stuart, at one time minister of the historic First Church of Stirling, Scotland, who is now touring New Zealand, is visiting Wellington. The scene of his former ministry is a church which dates back to the fifteenth century. Air. J, I. Cato, Napier manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, has retired after 52 years’ service. 'The vacant position will be filled by Mr. H. V. Bell, manager of the Gisborne and Air. K. W. Bull, chief ’clerk at Napier, will succeed to the management of the Gisborne office. Air. George C. Seers has been appointed managing director of General Alcators, New Zealand, Ltd., and becomes operating head of the company. His appointment became effective as from Alarch 2. Air. W. AlcHardy Forman, who recently’ resigned from the position of managing director, will remain dc-sely associated with the company, having accepted a seat on the directorate. Dr. I. J. Cunningham, of the Wallaceville Laboratory, who left Wellington last week to study veterinary science at the Sydney' University Veterinary College, will continue with his nutritional research work at Wallaceville on completing his course in three years’ time. During his absence, his wife, Dr. Alarion Cunningham, who is also a member of the laboratory’ staff, will be doing the research work formerly done by her husband. Air. H. Anthony Alcaland, A.R.1.8A., A.M.T.L’.E, A.ALl.Struct.E., formerly of Auckland, look over his new duties as town-planning officer to the City of Bath, England, last week. Bath is a key’ city in the town-planning world, and Air. Atealand’s new position is one with great possibilities. During the last five years, Mr. Mealand has been engaged in many enterprises in London and outside it. Slum clearance and housing under the London County Council formed part of his earlier work, and he was also engaged on the work of the lay-out of several cottage estates.
