MANAWATU GORGE

ROAD OPEN BUT UNSAFE. [ Per Press Association. ] PALMERSTON N., No . 11. A track has been cleared at the base of the slip in the Minawatu Gorge, sufficient to allow motor-cars to pass, but the route is not considered safe because earth and stones continue to fall from higher up the hillside. Motorists, however, are using the road, by Mr. W. Henderson and Mr. F. Pepper. The sheep and cattle stewards are to meet on the showgrounds this afternoon to make final arrangements for to-morrow. A further building is in course of erection to accommodate more of the housed sheep. When this is completed there will be covered accommodation for 102 sheep. Cookery exhibits must be delivered at the Home Industry building between 2 p.m. and S p.m. to-day, or between (? a.m. and 9 a.m. to-morrow. Prices for admission at the gate tomorrow will be: Adults Is 6d; children under 12, 6d; unemployed (registered) Is; children 6d. Stand, adults Is; children under 12, 6d. Cars 2s. (In Hawke’s Bay the charge for a car is ss). The chief stewards announce that in the horse division, though hacks are down compared with last year’s figures, there is an increase in the junipers’ section. The cattle entries slightly exceed last year’s figures. In the sheep division there is a large increase in the studs, fats and farmers’ sections, there being 610 as compared with 33a last year.
