WAVERLEY BALL

BUCK, WHITE AND GOLD FOOTBALL CLUB’S SOCIAL EVENING Seldom ha» the Waverley Town Hall presented such an attractive appearance as that during last We Inesuay night when the Waverley Football Club held its anual ball. There was a large crowd of dancers present from Patea, Hawera, Wanganui and outlying districts, as well as a splendid patronage from the Waverley pecple themselves. Fine weather prevailed and cn couraged some 300 dancers to attend the ball and the success of the function was shown in the happy atmosphere which prevailed from the first dance tune to the final “Auld Lang Syne. ’ ’ An impression of space was given by the decorative scheme which was composed entirely of black, white and gold streamers, handcut and frilled. They were arranged to form a huge tent ceiling, being suspended from the centre down the length of the hall to the sides. The stage’end was most artistically finished with streamers from the front top to the back, where they ended in a semi-circle outlined with nikau palms and masses of lycopodium. This hitter useful greenery was again used round the foot of the stage from which rose goalposts bound •in the same colours—black, white and gold, which aie the Waverley team’s colours. Behind the goalposts the orchestra, McNeill’s, from New Plymouth, were entsconced, and this orchestra proved very popular with the dancers, who encored the dance tunes again and again. Rows of coloured lights set horizontally across the, hall and also round the stage added another artistic touch. In the supper-room the tables had been decorated with spring bulbs and Iceland poppies, while the gold, white and black streamers had again been used to effect, with lycopodium and caskets of bulbs suspended from the centre of them. The various committees must feel gratified with the result of their efforts, and the club will benefit to the extent of some £3O as a result of the dance.
