The Times’ Calcutta correspondent asys that the magnitude of the problem c-f middle-class unemployment in Calcutta was exemplified when 10,000 applied for eight temporary vacancies in the new Reserve Bank, which was besieged by a crowd overflowing into the street and blocking the traffic. An official was compelled to climb out of a window to seek police assistance.
