WOMAN KILLED
CAR DRIVER PURSUED MELBOURNE, March 16. Mrs. Gladys James, aged 43, of St. Kilda, was fatally injured when she was struck by a motor-car while she was crossing High Street, St. Kilda, late to-night. It is believed that Mrs. Janies had just left the kerb when the car, which was being driven close to the footpath, struck her. The driver of the car, which, it is suspected, was stolen from Geelong, did not stop. Mr. Robert Horne, of the teaching staff of the Caulfield Grammar School, chased the driver in his own car. He drew level and called upon the driver to stop. The man did so. When MrHorne suggested that the man should return, he replied, “Yes, I suppose 1 had better.” He immediately started his engine and drove off. Mr. Horne again gave chase. Drawing level with the car, he gradually edged it over towards the kerb. It struck the edge of the gutter, and stopped against a tree. Mr. Horne leapt from his car and caught hold of the driver, who struggled violently and eventually broke away.
