ROWING

ARAMOHO CLUB ANNUAL MEETING HELD. REVIEW OF PAST SEASON. Presided over by Mr. F. Haywood, members of the Aramoho Boating Club held their annual meeting in the rowing shed last evening, a large number being present. The annual report and balance-sheet, which were adopted’, disclosed a very satisfactory position, and indicated that the club is in a sound position. Inter alia the report stated:— “The past season has been most successful and the interest maintained by members and supporters .shows the club to be progressing along the right lines. With wisdom and foresight in administration, and the co-operation and loyal support of all members, we hope the name interest will be manifest during the coming season. The membership is still well maintained and indications arc already in favour of an increase. As the club has. the facilities for them it is hoped that old members will do their utmost to welcome newly-elected members and to interest in the sport as many as possible. “Your committee met on 22 occasions during the season, the attendance at these meetings being as follows:—H. Dalzell, 22; F. Jones, 22; R. Boy land, 21; F. Laird, 20; C. Harrison, 17; A. Fargie, 16; W. Heath, 15; L. Haywood. 15; P. Wilson, 9. “The balance-sheet can well be described as the most satisfactory for many years. Our cash balance at the start of the season was £34 Ils Id, and after the whole of the season’s expenses we are still able to show a credit balance of £32 13s 9d. Amongst the receipts it is pleasing to note the amount of £94 won at regattas, this being larger than has been derived from this source for many seasons. During the past year £l5 has been transferro<l from the general fund to the rebuilding account, this amount now being £3O 9s sd; it is to be, hoped that this fund will be added to every year. Members’ subscriptions came in fairly well, but expenses of running the boat* shed for the. past season worked out at approximately £4 per member. This will give some idea of the expenses of ••running the club. “Quite a considerable amount was spent in repairs, upkeep, and additions 1 to the club’s plant. During the past season a now set of racing oars was procured from G. Towns, Sydney, a. glass case fitted in the social hall, and new doors fitted to the boat entrance to the shed. The whole of the plant has been overhauled. Special thanks must be given in this respect to Mr. G. Massey for his* able assistance in the re-varnishing of the boats. The committee wish to draw members’ attention to the fact that the work of keeping the plant in efficient, order should not devolve on a few. That most of the members have failed in this respect is evident. “That tho club has the public support was very evident, judging by the number of valuable trophies donated by generous-minded supporters. Altogether seven sets of trophies were rowed for, and these races created much interest amongst the members and spectators. The past season was one of the club’s most successful as far as regattas were concerned. Crews were successful in practically every class, and the executive extends hearty congratulations to all members upon the results obtained, which exceeded expectations. The club was represented at the following regattas: —New Plymouth. Waitara, Rotorua, 'Wellington, Pieton and Wanganui. “This year saw Wanganui win the interprovincial eight-oar championship of New Zealand at Wellington. Four Aramoho members were in the crew:—Messrs Holmes, Coxon, Stowers, and C. Weller (cox). To these and the other members of the crew we extend our hearty congratulations. We should also like to congratulate the Union Boat Club on being selected to represent New Zealand at the Melbourne Center:-' arv and extend to them our best wishes. “Last season your club was successful in winning all three inter-club cups, namely the Jury, Aulsebrook, and Head-of-the-River Cups. By winning all three cups in the one season, coupled with the results obtained nt the van ous regattas, shows that the standard of rowing in the club is on the up“The social side of the club is vital to it« existence, and recently wo commenced holding social evenings and the retiring committee suggest that similar functions bo held throughout the sea_ son providing the co-operation ot members is forthcoming. Tins is a matter which merits the consideration of members, as it is felt that these functions do much to assure the public the worthiness of the club and gam for it manv friends and supporters. The prize-giving night was an unparalleled success, and in this connection your committee wishes to thank the ladies committee and others who assisted in the organisation of the function. n president. Mr. F. Haywood, took this opportunity to present the trophies won by the various members during the i season. “We regret that wo have to report the death "of the late Mr A F. Dickson. who was a vice-president and one time captain of the club: also the late Mr. A. Gray, who was president of the Wanganui Rowing Association. “The largo number of supporters the club possesses forms one of its greatest assets, and your executive places on record its appreciation of the assistance rendered by the club’s many friends. Special mention must be made of the valuable assistance rendered by the members of the ladies’ committee at all functions held in connection with the club and vour committee records its deepest gratitude for their interest and support. Tho Press have done much to bring the club under the public notice, and for this publicity the keenest appreciation is expressed. Your executive also acknowledges tho generosity of trophy donors as well as other donations of various kinds, and your committee can assure these ladies and gentlemen that their help is. greatly appreciated.” The following officers were elected: Patron.
