MAORI PAGEANT

OPERA HOUSE TO MORROW NIGHT A unique attraction will be presented at the Opera House to-morrow evening. Commencing their indoor concerts, the Garrison Band will present a colourful Maori pageant. The huge cast will be one of the finest assembled here for a long time, and the audience will enjoy a genuine Maori performance, with special effects, and unusual settings. With such an atmosphere the combined voice choruses should prove an exceptional treat. The sweetness and appeal of the Maori voice has always been the source of comment by visitors to the Dominion. Other vocal numbers will include duets, solos and quartettes, whilse the instrumental items will bo sure to please. The everappealing pois by the maidens, also the famous canoe poi, together with the warriors’ stirring action songs, should prove a delight to the eye and ear—truly a musical treat. The final scene “E Pari Ra,” a glorious singing action number by the entire party, will alone be worth hearing. The band will give a bright, attractive programme consistent with their reputation for high-class performances, comprising the overture “Lustpiel,” descriptive number, “A Sleigh Ride,” with full effects; the hymn “Abide with Me”; whilst Mr. W. Hickman, New Zealand champion, will play the difficult bass solo “Cyelops.” This exceedingly attractive programme will conclude in time for the trams with the stirring march ‘ ‘ The Cossack.’’
