WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, Jan. 26, 4 p.m. General Situation. —Pressure is still high north of New Zealand, and a shallow westerly depression is passing in the south. Barometers have risen over eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds: Westerlies prevailing, moderate to strong generally, still reaching gale force in places, but moderate considerably before morning. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough south of Cape Egmont and in the Cook and Foveaux Stiait areas, elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong but decreasing north-west to south-west winds; seas moderate to heavy, but a decreasing swell. Weather: For the most part fair to cloudy, with moderate temperatures. Some showers or misty rain probable in western districts from Taranaki southwards and on the coast south from Dunedin. Phases of the Moon: Full moon, February 1. Last quarter, February 8. New moon, February 15. Last quarter, February 22.
