PROMISE FULFILLED
£5OO LEGACY FOR WOMAN Wife of a sergeant in the Berkshire Constabularly, Airs Eva Bailey, of Alaidenhead, is a beneficiary under the will of Miss Alice Jane Peel, of South Lodge, Wokingham, who died last October, and to whom she was maidcompanion during the war. In the will Airs Bailey is left £5OO, and her daughter, Joan, aged 15, is left £lOO. Airs Bailey stated in an interviw, that the legacy had come as a surprise, as Aliss Peel was so good to her in her lifetime. “I was a maid-compan-ion to Aliss Peel fkr 13 years, and I left her service about 15 years ago,” Airs Bailey said. “The legacy is evidently a war promi fulfilled, but the promise had passed out of my mind because of her kindness. “When my husband, who was then a police-constable at Wokingham, went to the front, Aliss Peel said, ‘Do not worry; you will be provided for if the worst, happens, and your little daughter will be educated’.”
